4/ PM, Iraqi counterpart lay cornerstone of electric linkage project

Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and his Iraqi counterpart, Mustafa Kazemi, held discussions on Thursday, following the laying of the cornerstone for an electrical interconnection project on the border of the two countries.

The two prime ministers affirmed that Jordan and Iraq maintain historical and strategic ties and are committed to expanding bilateral cooperation and integration across various fields.

Khasawneh stressed that Jordan's leadership, government, and people are committed to supporting the security of Iraq and improving the country's stability, prosperity, and progress so that Iraq can once again become a leading Arab and regional power.

The Prime Minister stated that the electrical interconnection project between Jordan and Iraq is a strategic step in bilateral cooperation, and expressed his hope that other strategic projects between the two countries, particularly an oil pipeline project between Basra and Aqaba and a joint economic city project on the two countries' borders, would be expedited.

In this regard, Khasawneh emphasized the significance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt, which he described as a model for Arab cooperation and coordination.

For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister praised Jordan's support for Iraq under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, emphasizing his country's desire to increase its openness and cooperation with Arab countries, particularly Jordan.
