14/ Youth minister announces 'Maharati' Programme's institutionalizing stage

Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra)- In presence of Princess Aisha Bint Faisal, Youth Minister Mohammad Nabulsi on Thursday announced institutionalization of "Maharati: My Skills" Programme implemented over the past five years, in partnership with United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Generations For Peace within the ministry's executive plan.

During the announcement ceremony held in Al-Hussein Youth City, Nabulsi said the programme's institutionalization comes after its success in empowering more than 135,000 young men and women with various life skills since its inception.

The move also comes in light of the programme's "qualitative" outcomes, represented in building youth capabilities, investing their talents, launching youth initiatives, and community service, he noted.

The programme is part of a series youth-proposed initiatives that will be implemented in all youth centers countrywide, he pointed out.

The ministry will continue to carry out the programme, in a way that contributes to empowering young people towards leading positive change in their communities and empowering youth workers.

The minister also lauded partnership with UNICEF, Generations For Peace and the supporting bodies in implementing this programme.

For her part, UNICEF Representative in Jordan Sherrose Moggi said UNICEF believes in supporting youth in Jordan to raise their voices, participate meaningfully in their communities, develop their skills for the future and participate in growth of a prosperous and peaceful society.

She added, "We are proud to hand over my Skills Programme to Ministry of Youth, which would implement it on a large scale and reach the largest number of young people, as well as enhance its impact and sustainability. We remain a committed partner to ensure its continued success."

Meanwhile, Chairman of Generations For Peace, Muhannad Arabiyat, said: "We are all proud of programme's achievements, which contributed to developing skills of Ministry of Youth team and left an impact on the lives of young people, society and future leaders."

"We believe that building skills of this generation is achieved by efforts and dedication of close and directl partners and provide ministry team with the necessary tools to transfer their knowledge and expertise to youth," he noted.

The event, which was attended by partners, supporters, a number of young participants, and program facilitators, included a visual presentation on the programme’s journey during the five years, which included holding 14,000 training sessions on building and developing youth skills, and implementation of more than 24,000 youth initiatives in various fields of life.

The event also featured a presentation of the success stories of young participants and workers, as 200 youth supervisors were trained on designing and delivering life skills development programs.
