10/ 'New Voters' Project to enhance election awareness launched
Amman, October 6 (Petra)--King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD) launched "The New Voters" project, in partnership with Politics and Society Institute (PSI), which aims to qualify educational staff on democratic curiculum, which was inaugurated by Jordan's National Centre for Curriculum Development (NCCD. According to a KAFD statement, on Thursday, the project seeks to achieve the educational workers' political empowerment and provide an opportunity for an "attractive" learning experience for young students, to participate "effectively" in the democratic electoral process and party life during the next parliamentary elections. Speaking at the launching ceremony, KAFD director, Saeb Hassan, said training provided for educational supervisors reflects commitment to keep pace with Jordan's political modernization. The project also comes in implementation of recommendations of Royal Committee to Modernize the Political System to ensure students' political empowerment, enhance values of good citizenship and motivate engagement in public life, in an interactive way to achieve positive interaction, he noted. Meanwhile, project manager, Ahmed Qudah, said the project seeks to educate educational supervisors about concepts of democratic practice, raise their awareness about the curriculum content, enhance skills in promoting dialogue and democracy values. Some 60 educational supervisors will be trained in the northern, centeal and southern regions on democratic curriculum, who would , in turn, train school teachers, he pointed out. The curriculum targets high school graders, who are expected to vote in Jordan's upcoming parliamentary elections, to raise level of electoral awareness and motivate stronger engagement in the Kingdom's political and electoral process. //Petra// AG
