23/ Minister says supporting housing government priority
Amman, Oct 4 (Petra) -- The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Yahya Kasabi, Tuesday said that securing adequate housing is one of the most important priorities that the government is striving to meet. Kasabi said several royal and housing programmes targeting poor families were implemented across Jordan to further development by improving housing conditions and expanding housing options for all in a sustainable environment. The Minister added during a ceremony to mark World Habitat Day that the government is committed to the urban agenda launched by the UN Human Settlements Programme in Kyoto, the implementation mechanism for the eleventh sustainable development goal. According to a statement by the Ministry of Works, Kasabi said that the government presented its first voluntary report on the progress made in the axes of the urban agenda at the high-level meeting held at the UN General Assembly. He noted that the government helped secure funding to implement the agenda axes and the development of new financing mechanisms through partnerships between the public and private sectors. He highlighted that Jordan, as part of its economic reforms scheme, launched last June the vision of economic modernisation for the next ten years under the slogan "a better future", as it focused on improving comprehensive and sustainable growth. //Petra// AK
