Aqaba, Oct 4 (Petra) -- An advanced civil defense and risk management center will be set up at the Aqaba International Industrial Estate to deal with emergencies at factories in the area, Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya announced on Tuesday.

Al-Faraya told a meeting with representatives of industrial establishments at the Aqaba Governorate headquarters of the need for a security mechanism or oversight body to ensure public safety in their companies and businesses.

He said a tender was floated for the JD5 million civil defense center with skilled and trained manpower to respond to accidents and hazardous materials and supervise emergency plans in the industrial facilities.

For his part, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Phosphate Mines Company Mohammad Thneibat said it was agreed to establish the national center, noting that companies will contribute to the project within their social responsibility.
